The Urbanization
Puerto Calero
On the south coast of
Lanzarote between
Puerto del Carmen and Playa Quemada (see map), there is
one of its most interesting sights:
The urbanization and marina Puerto
Calero,
one of the world's most modern and exclusive yacht harbours, named
after their creator
José Calero, and in short called 'Puerto Calero'.
After an extension, that was carried out from 1997 to 1999, the marina
now
consists of 420 berths, giving shelter to yachts of 8 to 75 metres in length..
The residential area has also expanded.
The 18 hole golf
course, designed to international standards,
is in the final stage of planning.
In addition, two hotels have
been built
with a total of more than 1.300 beds.
One will be opened
in April,
the other one in August 2003.
Every
year, important sporting events take place in Puerto Calero,
e.g. the Deep-sea
Fishing Competition, or the regattas
for the Prince of Asturias Cup, the
Princess Cristina Cup,
the César Manrique Cup, or Puerto Calero's
own Cup..
